Sorry, Not Sorry: The F-150 Beats the Tundra Hands Down

When it comes to full-size pickup trucks, the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra are two of the most popular trucks out there. Ford updated the F-150 for 2018, giving it new engine options, style updates, a new transmission, and more advanced safety features. The Tundra, while still a decent truck, is getting dated. It’s safe to say the F-150 has pulled ahead and the Tundra is quickly fading away in the Ford’s rearview mirror.

Here’s why the 2018 Ford F-150 beats the 2018 Toyota Tundra hands down:

Looks Matter

The F-150 received an update in the looks department for 2018 and it is widely seen as the best looking pickup truck on the road. Taking a few cues from its Super Duty brothers, the F-150 has new headlights, taillights, and new grilles that give the truck a wider looking stance. Each F-150 model comes with a slightly different grille design.

“Ford’s designers did a fine job distinguishing the 2018 from its predecessor in a significant, yet inoffensive way, while still retaining the same hood and fenders to keep costs down. It’s a nice, conservative update, which is exactly what you want when you’re re-styling a high-volume icon like the Ford F-150.” - Jalopnik

The Toyota Tundra isn’t a bad looking truck and did receive small updates for 2018, but it’s generally agreed that the Tundra is bland and leaves something to be desired as far as look are concerned. And let’s be honest, everyone wants to drive a good looking, stylish pickup.

“...overall the Tundra isn't the best looking truck out there.” - The Car Connection

Engine Options

The 2018 Toyota Tundra doesn’t give you engine options—you either go with their V8 engine or nothing at all. And while the Tundra’s V8 is powerful, it’s also pretty darn thirsty, so you’re going to be visiting the gas station fairly often. If you need a pickup truck but would rather have a smaller more efficient engine, you’re out of luck if you’re considering the Tundra.

Ford, on the other hand, is offering five engine options for the F-150 including a new diesel engine that will be available soon. As it stands, you can get a new 3.3L naturally aspirated V6, a 2.7L EcoBoost V6, a 5.0L V8, or the impressive 3.5L EcoBoost V6. Ford is all about giving you choice, and with this many engine options, it’s easy to find the right F-150 for your needs and lifestyle.

Combine any of those engines with Ford’s new 10-speed transmission and you have a capable truck, that provides and agile, confident ride.

“...the F-150 is surprisingly easy to navigate within city limits as well as on congested interstates. It feels comfortable and controlled at high speeds and on winding sections of road, making the most seamless transition from work mode to commuter mode.” - Car and Driver

Best-in-Class Towing

Whether you’re towing your boat to the lake or a trailer full of equipment to the job site, you can rely on the 2018 F-150 to tow virtually anything you can hook up to it. That’s because the F-150 can tow more than any other pickup in its class.

That 3.5L EcoBoost V6 we just mentioned produces 375 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, giving the F-150 a maximum towing capacity of 5,987 kg (13,200 lbs), beating out all gas and diesel engine competitors. There’s no need to bother with the Tundra’s gas-guzzling V8 for towing when the Ford EcoBoost V6 allows the F-150 to tow more while being more fuel efficient.

All Those Rewards

The Ford F-150 has been the best selling truck in Canada for 52 consecutive years and the best selling vehicle in the nation for eight consecutive years. It’s hard to argue with that many Canadians putting their trust and handing over their hard-earned dollars year after year after year.

“Ford’s F-150 may be the best selling vehicle in this country, but it’s not entering 2018 without numerous revisions, most notably new headlights, grilles and taillights, and more power, too.” - Driving.ca
